Whitehead, who was a first-round pick in 2023, is still just 21 years old. The young wing has proven he has a burner on him, and he has plenty of time to develop the rest of his game and become a solid role player.
Dariq Whitehead and Zhaire Smith both caught fire today in Oklahoma City's game against South Bay. Whitehead totaled 24 points with four triples, and Smith had 26 points with seven rebounds, all of them offensive.

Whitehead, who was waived by the Nets earlier this week, will now get a fresh opportunity with OKC. His contract with the team is a non-guaranteed training camp deal. It's likely he'll end up with the OKC Blue in the G League to start the 2025-26 season, but the Thunder also have an open two-way spot he could earn. This is an ideal landing spot for the young Whitehead, as OKC is elite at developing hidden gems.
